Turkey Meatballs in Marinara Sauce

Homemade turkey meatballs in the delicious marinara sauce is a very juicy, gentle and quite simple main dish.  It will not leave anyone indifferent. This is a dietary recipe because I use lean ground turkey and skip browning the meatballs on the skillet, just cook them in the sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs lean ground turkey
  • 1 small or 1/2 medium yellow onion
  • 1/4 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground  black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can (32oz) marinara sauce
  • few flakes of red chili pepper

Cooking Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, finely minced onion, bread crumbs, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix well with your hands and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Pour 2 Tbsp of olive oil into a wide cold saucepan. With wet hands, shape the meatballs into the size of golf balls and then put them to the pan in one layer.
  3. Evenly pour the tomato marinara sauce on the top of the meatballs. Cover the pan with a lid. Cook on a medium-low heat for 40 minutes. At the end add few flakes of red chili pepper and salt to the taste, if needed. Stir with a wooden spoon and let it cook for another 5 minutes.

Serve hot with fresh pasta. Enjoy!
