Matcha tea which is used to prepare a delicious and energizing drink, matcha latte, is finely ground powder of young green tea leaves which are shade-grown for only three weeks. Since only gentle leaves are used to prepare matcha powder – the stems and veins are removed, the powder easily dissolves in water and milk.
The list of matcha benefits is endless: it’s rich in antioxidants, it boosts energy, increases metabolism, prevents heart diseases, reduces bad cholesterol, improves brain function, detoxifies, strengthens the immune system, improves skin health.
To prepare a matcha latte drink use a regular cow milk, or try it with almond or coconut milk to add even more benefits to your drink.
The optimal liquid temperature for preparing matcha latte is 175F. You can use cooler liquids, but never hotter; hot liquids will burn gentle tea leaves powder and make the drink bitter.
Try my version of matcha latte which I like to drink for a breakfast during weekends. It takes only a few minutes to prepare. I hope you would enjoy this healthy and delicious morning drink!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup hot boiled water (175F Max)
- 1 1/2 tsp matcha powder
- 1-2 tsp honey (or to taste)
- 3/4 cup hot boiled milk (175F Max)
Cooking directions:
- Add matcha powder to hot boiled water. Make sure your water temperature is 175F or less. Add 1-2 tsp of honey depending on how sweet you like your drinks. Whisk it for about 30sec with a milk frother. I use this turbo milk frother which is powerful and easy to use.
- Boil milk in a small saucepan or you can bring it to a boil on a microwave. Usually, it takes me for about 1-1 1/2 min, but be sure to keep eye on your milk. Also, whisk milk with a frother for about 45sec-1min to make milk foam. It will cool down to a needed temperature while whisking.
- Pour milk over the top of your matcha powder mixture. You can try to make beautiful pictures on the top as you pour.
Enjoy your ultimate treat – Matcha Latte – while it’s hot!
